4:00-5:00: Green Plate Challenge Introduction
Jim Barnes of Crystal Lake Catering and Eco-Building Products has developed this competition among 5 Benzie County restaurants. Participating chefs have been tasked with creating a "green plate" dinner (consisting of a minimum of 90% locally produced ingredients) that will be served at their respective restaurants throughout the summer. Jim will be introducing the contest at the Elberta Solstice Festival and has invited the chefs to prepare their dishes in front of the Solstice attendees. Chefs include Sel from the Cabbage Shed, Walt from Betsie Bay Inn, Derrick from Tali Bistro, TBA from Coho Cafe, and Daren from The Thistle at Crystal Mountain.

6:15-7:00: Gross Eating Contest----Think beet jello is gross? How about a brussel sprout and pickle juice smoothie? If you think you have tougher tastebuds than your friends, sign up for the Gross Food Eating contest to win a fabulous prize! (And surprise your mom and dad!) Sign up at the Solstice Festival's T-shirt booth between the hours of 12:00 to 4:00. Contest will take place at 5:00 in front of the bandstand. Space is limited to 20 kids between the ages of 8 and 13. Don't wait! See you there!
